BOUQUET INGREDIENTS

snapdragons, poppy pods, bupleurum

Holy buckets, we are drowning in snapdragons!

You may notice snaps popping up in your bouquets week after week, and that's because they are our favorite flower to grow! When grown for cut flowers they don't mind cozying up to each other, so we plant around 8 plants per square foot, making for an efficient use of space on our tiny farm. They also tolerate (and actually prefer) the lingering cold of early spring, and with established roots and adequate protection they can even survive Kansas winters.

They come in a delightful range of shapes and colors and we grow as many varieties as we can squeeze in. Some of the first snaps you received were an open-faced variety called Chantilly, which we planted this year in stunning shades of peachy bronze and purple velvet. We grow plenty of the classic form—the ones you can pinch to make them "roar"—in a variety of colors, some of which you will find in your bouquets this week. We’re also excited to be trying a double-flowering variety called Madame Butterfly this year, which we hope will enchant you as much as it has us!

Though the snapdragons have been loving the extended cool spring we've been treated to this year, these cool, overcast days have delayed some of our other blooms. We expect the heat coming next week to finally open some of our late spring blooms, but we are grateful for this snapdragon abundance to fill the gap. So this week, expect lush bouquets brimming with these stunners and more. Enjoy!
