BOUQUET INGREDIENTS

peony, snapdragons, bupleurum, orlaya

You may know that we grow on leased land, and while we are grateful to have access to land at all (there would be no farm without it), it does mean we have some limitations on what we are able to grow. Because we're not supposed to plant perennials on our land, we rely on annuals to provide blooms from April through October, and many flower farmers like me dread the last half of May each season because our crops grown in protected tunnels are petering out and our field crops don't come in strongly until June (this is also part of the reason we like to skip subscription deliveries before Memorial Day, but also because we know people like to travel!).

This week, for the first time since we started our bouquet subscription, I've sourced stems from another local grower to supplement our blooms. I am so proud of the way we've been able to supply consistent blooms for our subscriptions despite our land use limitations, but I also want you all to have as much delicious variety in your bouquets as possible! So tucked in your bouquets this week you'll find the lovely and incredibly fragrant Duchesse de Nemours peony sourced from Fern's Farmette.

This got me thinking about all the ways farmers around here are propping each other up. Like our high tunnel, which we've been harvesting from exclusively this season while we wait on our field crops, that's leased to us by Jill at Moon on the Meadow. We also supplied stems to Soul of Soil farm last week to supplement their Mother's Day bouquets. I am grateful to be in community with folks who believe a rising tide floats all boats and we are all working together to increase the viability and availability of locally-grown, seasonal cut flowers.

Thanks again for supporting our small farm. It means more than you know!
