BOUQUET INGREDIENTS

ranunculus, snapdragons, orlaya

People in the floral industry call the week preceding Mother’s Day “the Super Bowl of flowers.” Mother’s Day is one of the busiest days for flower sales in the nation, second only to Valentine’s Day, and I’ve certainly felt the hustle this week already! Despite the scramble to get everything done, this holiday is a boon for flower farmers like me, providing an influx of cash after a long dry season. This, along with folks like you signing up for weeks of bouquets up front, helps us cover the many costs of farming in spring – so thank you!

Many of you are receiving this subscription as a Mother’s Day gift and I’ve been thinking about what it means to be maternal. It is warmth and nurturing and gentle guidance and it is also steadfastness and ferocity and resilience. I’m not a mother myself (only to our three cats) but I recognize how hard of a job it is! I know Mother’s Day is also bittersweet for so many. It’s feeling particularly heavy this year for my family as my mom prepares for her mastectomy next week. If this week will be hard for you, too, I hope the flowers are able to provide a bit of comfort in your home.

Take care and enjoy your blooms,
