Hello friends, new and old--
We are so excited to bring these first bouquets to you! Since many of your names are new to us, I want to make sure we introduce ourselves to you all this week.
My name is Destinee, and my partner, Spencer, and I run this small farm together part-time. We met in college at Baker University, where I was pursuing my degree in music and Spencer was studying ecology and evolution. Our shared affinity for the beautiful and the biological culminated in our dream of farming together, and we started our farm in 2023 growing vegetables and cut flowers. We each have been training in small-scale, organic vegetable farming since 2020, and I continue to work full-time on a vegetable farm in town. Some of you may know Spencer from 1900 Barker Cafe & Bakery, where he baristas seasonally.
We made the exciting leap this year to focus on local, sustainable flower production and are happy to have found our niche among the rich agricultural community that Lawrence is so lucky to have. We farm on leased land, thanks to the generosity of our farming mentors at Mellowfields and Moon on the Meadow farms, totaling around a quarter acre in size. It's more of a large garden than a small farm, but you'd be amazed at how many flowers such a small space can produce! We are committed to stewarding our land in a way that honors the earth and all the creatures with whom we share it. We hope you enjoy these first blooms as much as we have enjoyed growing them!
